Salak fruit

Salak (or Snake fruit) is a species of palm tree, that can be found in Indonesia.

It is a very short palm, with leaves up to 6 metres long. It's fruits grow in clusters at the base of the palm tree. The fruits are eatable and is a popular with both locals and tourists. They are used not only as food but also in medicine (to stop diarrhea). Due to the reddish-brown scaly skin, fruits also referred as “snake fruit”. The fruit can be opened easily with hands. Peel by pinching the tip of the skin, which should cause the skin to slough off and it can be pulled away.

You can find Salak in many countries, but if in countries like Malaysia or Thailand fruits ripen in June-August, in Indonesia they ripen all year long.
